The nineteen-year-old now holds the world record for the youngest woman to fly solo around the world. <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Most of you already know that Zara Rutherford successfully completed her world record attempt to be the youngest woman to fly solo around the world. This is no small feat in its own right, but Zara embarked on this journey to also inspire young women around the globe to pursue their dreams and promote gender equality in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics). ICDSoft is extremely proud to have been the main sponsor of this world record attempt<\/a>, as we are strong proponents of gender equality in STEM and aviation is one of our many passions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is how the idea designer describes world record celebration set:<\/p>It consists of her mini-figurine in a tan flight suit, along with a 1\/35th scale model of her customized Shark ultra-light aircraft. The canopy can be opened to let Zara sit at the controls and take-off toward her next destination. The gear can be \"removed\" for cruise and the flaps can be extended for landing. Between flights, the Rotax engine is easily accessible for maintenance by removing the nose cover. Also included is a small stand to display the pioneer and her aircraft from various angles.
This set idea is a tribute to Zara's voyage. With your help it could become an inspiration for girls and young women to be bold and take their place in the sky.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Flying with an ultralight aircraft around the world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Zara flies a Shark<\/a> - a two-seated ultralight aircraft, which was specially prepared for her long around-the-world journey. For example, the second seat holds an additional fuel tank to extend the range of the aircraft. The journey began on the 18th of August 2021 and ended on the 20th of January 2022. The adventure lasted 155 days covering five continents and 52 countries. Not everything went according to plan, as bad weather caused multiple delays, but no one ever thought that breaking a world record would be easy. We welcomed her in our home base in Sofia on the 14th of January 2022 as well. On the cover photo, you can see Zara with cadets from the Bulgarian Air Force Academy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This journey makes her the youngest ever woman to fly an ultralight aircraft solo around the world, beating the previous record of Shaesta Waiz, who was 30 when she completed her journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
