MySQL Databases

You can manage the databases on your hosting account using the MySQL Databases section in your hosting account Control Panel. To enter the MySQL Database section, just click on the MySQL Databases icon on the Control Panel main page.

• How to create a database

Create new database

Type the name of your new database in the Database name box and click on the Create button. The screen will refresh, and the new database will show up in the list of your databases.

The database name can contain only Latin characters, numbers and underscores. Note that the database name is automatically prefixed with the username of your hosting account.

Once you create your database, the system will automatically grant permissions to your master MySQL user. The master MySQL username is the same as your hosting account Control Panel username. Its default password is the same as your initial Control Panel password.

How to delete a database

To delete a database use the Delete button next to the database name

MySQL users

You can use the MySQL Users tab to manage the users associated with your MySQL databases.

Note that the

You can also utilize the random password generator:

Online Manual » Control Panel » Random password generator

4. Once you get an indication that you have a strong password, also enter the new password at the Confirm Password field.
5. Select the required privileges from the Privileges select menu. By default, all the privileges are selected. If you do not require any special set of permissions, you can leave them as they are.
6. Click the Add button.

By default, all created users are allowed to access the MySQL server locally through a script that runs on the server. In case you need to access your database using an application installed on your computer such as NaviCat, MySQL Front, MySQL Control Center, Query Browser, etc, you need to allow remote connections for the respective MySQL user and database.

b. How to Change the password for a MySQL user

To change the password for a particular MySQL user, use the Change password for MySQL users controls at the bottom of the MySQL Users tab. This section of the interface also includes a password strength indicator, and you can only change the password if it's deemed FairStrong, or Very Strong.

c. How to delete a MySQL user

To delete a MySQL user just click on the Delete button next to the MySQL username in the MySQL Users tab.

Connecting to the database remotely

To allow remote connection, just click on the "Enable remote" button next to the MySQL username and database you wish to enable remote access for. Once remote connections are enabled, you will be able to access the database from a remote connection.

Details about the connection settings, such as MySQL Server name/host and the MySQL port are available at the top of the MySQL section page.

IMPORTANT: If you are using views in your MySQL databases, enabling/disabling remote connections for your master MySQL user may lead to problems with these views, due to the change of the type of access. Therefore, in case you have MySQL views in any of your databases, it is strongly recommended to use a separate MySQL subuser for remote connections.

Using the phpMyAdmin utility
The phpMyAdmin utility is a web based application which provides an easy way to manage your databases. You can perform almost any database related task there: create tables, import/export data, run MySQL queries, etc. You can access the phpMyAdmin program using the phpMyAdmin link available on the main page of your hosting Control Panel or in the MySQL Databases section.
