MySQL 8.4 Now Available on All Hosting Accounts

We are happy to announce that our hosting platform now supports MySQL 8.4. This upgrade brings enhanced performance, improved security, and stricter data integrity standards to MySQL 8 databases.

What is Changing?

We have two MySQL versions running simultaneously on our servers - MySQL 5 and MySQL 8.

MySQL 8.4 has now fully replaced MySQL 8.0.

MySQL 5.7 has not been affected by the MySQL 8 upgrade and remains available to all hosting accounts.

Compatibility Notes

All databases previously running on MySQL 8.0 have been seamlessly upgraded to MySQL 8.4. No manual changes are required, and user applications should continue to operate without interruption.

The upgrade preserves all data, user privileges, and configuration settings. However, if an application uses version-specific SQL syntax or relies on deprecated features from MySQL 8.0, we recommend reviewing the MySQL 8.4 release notes to ensure full compatibility.

Upgrading a Database from MySQL 5.7 to 8.4

If you plan to upgrade your database from MySQL 5 to 8, you can use our handy database converter tool available in the hosting Control Panel > MySQL Databases section.

Our converter automatically creates a corresponding MySQL 8 database, replicates usernames, and preserves assigned privileges.

Industry Adoption

MySQL 8.4 was officially released in April 2024, but adoption across hosting providers has been slow.

As of now, most major hosts still default to MySQL 8.0 or earlier. By offering MySQL 8.4, we at ICDSoft are proud to be among the first hosting providers to make this version available to our customers.
